Siddhagiri - Model 316 -Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe
The 316 grade SS Seamless Pipe is made of an austenitic grade of stainless steel. It shows good resistance to chloride ion-related stress corrosion cracking. This is why the 316 SS Seamless Pipes can be found in various marine and seawater applications. As it is a seamless pipe, it has no welded seam. It is manufactured through the extrusion process, and the pipe is drawn from a solid SS 316 grade billet.
The ASTM A312 is the standard and TP316 is the grade. It refers to 316 grade SS. The prefix “TP” here represents the “type” of the steel used. They are available in seamless and longitudinal welds variants and generally have buttweld or threaded ends. They are mostly used for high temperature and high pressure applications. It includes heat exchangers, boilers, pressure vessels, and so on. They are also found in food preparation equipment, especially in chloride environments.
Which is thicker schedule 40 or 80 316 SS Pipe?
The most prominent difference between schedule 40 and 80 316 grade SS Pipe is their wall thickness. The schedule 80 pipes have a greater wall thickness compared to the schedule 40 wall thickness. However, it has a smaller wall diameter and a higher weight than the schedule 40 316 SS Pipe. This is for a given nominal size of the pipe.
What is Welded and drawn 316 stainless steel tubing?
The Welded and drawn procedure for the 316 grade ss tubing procedure starts with a flat strip stock. It is firstly T.I.G welded to give the shape of a tube. It is then drawn through a given series of dies so as to reach its final size.
The 316 grade SS Tubes is known as Marine Grade and are one of the most commonly used steel grades in the market. This austenitic grade has 2-3% molybdenum in its chemical composition. This helps to further enhance its corrosion resisting properties, which include chloride environments and media. However, it is to be noted that grade 316 ss is not resistant to warm sea water. It is prone to pitting and crevice corrosion in the warm seawater environments.
