Model SAP -Standard Assesment Procedure
Deciding on sustainable, environmentally efficient construction is no longer simply a question of conscience. The Government is putting in place strategies that will aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
One such strategy involves the modification to Part L1 of the Building Regulations, which came into effect in April 2002. These amendments insist upon the calculation of a Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) Rating for all new dwellings and those converted through material change of use.
The Standard Assessment Procedure is used for:
- Calculating the SAP rating, on a scale from 1 to 120, Based on the annual energy costs for space and water Heating
- Calculating the Carbon Index, on a scale of 0.0 to 10.0, Based on the annual CO2 emissions associated with Space and water heating
The requirements also necessitate that the rating is displayed in the property upon completion.
