Duke Extrusion - Stock PTFE Lined Tubing
Duke Extrusion offers specialized PTFE lined tubing designed for applications where reduced friction is paramount, such as in catheter tubing. This tubing features an inner PTFE liner to minimize resistance, allowing devices to pass through effortlessly. Available in a diversity of standard sizes, the tubing can also be reinforced with coil or braided composites, and comes in various durometers and lumen configurations. With a focus on quick-tailored solutions, Duke Extrusion provides rapid production and shipping, ensuring tubing is dispatched within 24 to 48 hours. The product lineup includes customizations such as etched modifications, over-molding for catheter components, and specific end conditions. While PTFE offers excellent chemical resistance and temperature stability, it is not gamma sterilizable. Therefore, alternatives like PebaSLIX are offered if a gamma-compatible liner is needed. Duke Extrusion emphasizes quality design and provides both stock and custom solutions for medical-grade tubing.
Within catheter tubing applications, PTFE liners are utilized on the I.D. of the tubing to reduce friction and allow other devices to pass through with less resistance.
At Duke Extrusion, we can produce quick-turn PTFE lined tubing in a wide range of standard sizes, including those with reinforcements such as coil reinforced tubing and braided composite tubing. We can provide tubing in both single and multiple durometers as well as single and multiple lumen configurations. We stock a wide range of liners from 2 to 24 Fr and can incorporate them as lining for catheter tubing.
PTFE lined catheter tubing is bondable to other components, such as metallic and polymeric marker bands, luer fittings, and hypotubing. This tubing can also be over-molded with catheter shaft components such as pull rings and device deployment mechanisms. Duke Extrusion’s stock PTFE Lined Tubing is available in several material options including:
- PebaSLIX™
- Polyurethane
- Nylon
- PEBA
- Isoprene
At Duke Extrusion, we utilize etching to add custom modifications to your PTFE lined tubing products. This process allows additional layers of other materials to be incorporated into your tubing design. Our quality design engineers can produce custom PTFE lined tubing that is strong, reliable, and provides enhanced durability.
Stock PTFE Lined Tubing can also be over-molded with catheter shaft components such as pull rings and device deployment mechanisms. Additionally, end conditions allow us to terminate for PTFE liners before the ends of the tubing itself for formable tips. Customers can specify the length of end conditions for liners.
Sterilization Considerations
PTFE is not a gamma compatible material, so appropriate sterilization should be considered when ordering catheter tubing with a PTFE liner. If a gamma-compatible, lubricious liner material is required, we can use PebaSLIX as a replacement for PTFE liners.
Stock PTFE Lined Tubing Thickness & Reinforcement Options
PTFE liner thickness varies from 0.0005” to 0.0025”, depending on the size of the catheter tubing. Multi-durometer PTFE lined catheter tubing is also available, with or without coil or braid reinforcement as your application requires.
PTFE vs FEP Tubing
Due to their high chemical resistance, high and low temperature capabilities, and resistance to a wide range of chemicals and elemental conditions, stock PTFE and FEP lined tubing products can both be utilized in a variety of applications. FEP Tubing is differentiated from PTFE Tubing due to FEP’s lower heat shrink temperature and increased clarity and flexibility.
