Supply Vessel Inert Gas Generator (SVIGG)
Our Supply Vessel Inert Gas Generator is designed specifically for Offshore and Platform Supply Vessels. For many years, we have supplied nitrogen generators based on PSA technology for tankers transporting oil, chemicals and gas and the SVIGG design is a highly compact and flexible system. Typically, nitrogen generators are composed by a plant dimensioned so it can generate directly from generator to consumption in the cargo hold – now the concept has been changed a bit. As Supply Vessels typically transport smaller volume cargos, which require less volume of nitrogen to safeguard against explosions and fire-hazards, the standard nitrogen generators are often relatively big compared to the requirements. By introducing a high pressure booster and a fully automated bottle station the resulting product is much more appropriate to the needs and purposes.
By using the booster and cylinders the size of the nitrogen generator is less dependent on the flow requirement, and it is far easier to dimension the system just by adjusting the number of cylinders and thereby the stored amount of nitrogen in the cylinder station.
As this setup allows for a higher grade of flexibility when it comes to placing the storage cylinders, it is a clear advantage on the small Supply Vessels with less space available , it. This is primarily due to the fact that one is dealing with a smaller generator, but also because the cylinders constituting the cylinder bank can be placed as desired, i.e. side by side along a wall.
Our smaller PSA based nitrogen generators delivers purities from 5% oxygen content and down to an oxygen content of 10ppm, which makes versatility of the generator even greater. It should be taken into consideration though that the lower oxygen content the product is required to have either will prolong the filling time of the required volume or enhance the size of the generator itself. In general the requirement for the nitrogen generators for Supply Vessels is an available storage equal to 125% of the cargo hold volume, and an oxygen content of maximum 5% is most of the times sufficient.
