The Hanna Instruments HI-83216 is the ideal photometer for basic swimming pool and spa water analysis. The multiparameter bench meter measure six different methods including Alkalinity, Free Chlorine, Total Chlorine, Cyanuric Acid, Calcium Hardness and pH. To achieve ideal water conditions, swimming pool water requires daily testing for disinfection residuals and maintaining pH levels. Chlorine in fact, is used in swimming pools to disinfect water, but its effectiveness depends on the pH value. If these parameters are not constantly checked, a growth of micro-organisms dangerous to health can occur. On the other side, if the chlorine level is too high, beside the use of chemical products, the water takes on an unpleasant smell and it can cause eye irritation. Cyanuric acid is used as a stabilising agent for chlorine, especially in summer months or in heated pools.

Calcium hardness and alkalinity levels should also be monitored weekly to ensure the water is well balanced, to avoid corrosion and scale formation.
