Tri-Round - Cold Rolled Bar
Cold finished steel is essentially hot rolled steel that has been further processed. The cold finished steel, also known as cold rolled steel, is typically produced as turned bars or cold drawn bars. Hot rolled bars are cold drawn by pulling (drawing) a bar through a die smaller than the incoming hot rolled size.
The cold working process improves the dimensional tolerances, the straightness, the surface appearance, as well as the physical properties of steel.
The Triroundbars.com Company provides cold drawn and turned rounds, squares, and hexagons ranging from 1/4″ to 9″. With over 10,000 climate-controlled racks in our Taylor Distribution Centre, we are able to deliver high-quality products just-in-time.
Our cold drawn bars are also inspected with our proprietary surface inspection equipment. Eddy current, broken-bar testing or mag testing are all available and can be used as required. The ultimate tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation of the bars are modified to improve machinability and chip formation.
We are pioneers of the nation’s steel industry and a leading manufacturer of long products ranging from bars, rods, high yield deformed bars. As a result of our international network, we are helping our steel bar & rods customers to export their products such as Stainless Steel, Carbon Steel, Alloy Steel, Duplex Stainless Steel, Super Duplex, Copper Nickel, Hastelloy, Inconel, Monel Bar Rod etc.
These products are exported to countries such as Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, Myanmar, Hong Kong, Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Mauritius, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, South Africa, Madagascar, Egypt, UAE, Amman, Kuwait, Bahrain, United Kingdom, Denmark, Switzerland and Germany. We are staffed by a team of well-trained technical personnel, providing technical support and services relating to quality and applications of our products. Our technical team is able to advise on the most appropriate product quality to meet your requirements.
All cold products have a superior surface finish as well as superior tolerance, concentricity, and straightness when compared to hot rolled. Cold finished bars are harder to work with because of the higher carbon content. Cold rolled sheets and hot rolled sheets cannot be compared. Among these two products, the cold rolled product has a low carbon content and is typically annealed, making it softer than hot rolled sheet.
In cold rolling, the metal is rolled below its recrystallization temperature (usually at room temperature), resulting in strain hardening up to 20% greater strength. It also improves the surface finish and holds better tolerances. Cold-rolled products include sheets, strips, bars, and rods. These products are usually smaller than hot-rolled products. Four-high or cluster mills are used because the workpieces are smaller and stronger than hot rolled stock. In one pass, cold rolling cannot reduce a workpiece’s thickness as much as hot rolling.
Steel that has been cold rolled is essentially hot rolled steel that has been further processed. In cold reduction mills, the steel is cooled (at room temperature) and then annealed and/or tempered. Using this process, steel will have tighter dimensional tolerances and a wider range of surface finishes. The term Cold Rolled is incorrectly used to refer to all products, when it refers to flat rolled sheet and coil products.
In the case of bar products, “cold finishing” usually refers to cold drawing and/or turning, grinding, and polishing. It has four main benefits:
- As a result, cold drawing increases yield and tensile strengths, eliminating further costly thermal treatments.
- Turning removes surface imperfections.
- Grinding reduces the original size tolerance range.
- Polishing improves the surface finish.
- Controlled rolling provides better mechanical properties and energy savings
- Strength; Durability; High load bearing capacity
- Hot-rolled products are more precise dimensionally than cold-rolled products. Due to the cooling process, it is already closer to the finished dimension.
- Only a few shapes are available in cold rolled steel, such as round, square, flat, and variations of those shapes.
- Cold rolled steel products consist of bars, strips, rods, and sheets, which tend to be smaller than the same products produced by hot rolled processes.
- Additionally, the smaller products are much more tolerant than the larger hot rolled versions.
