TmaxTurbo Blanket

SHARE

Turbochargers in cars are used to get more horsepower and better fuel efficiency. Their main drawback, however, is the heat they generate in the engine bay, especially if they reach their limits and operate under extreme conditions like those in the tuning and car race/motorsport world. Undesired side effects could be a drop in power, failure of heat-sensitive components such as plastic and rubber hoses, electrical wiring, electronic components, … and damage to the paint.

Tmax-Turbo Blanket helps. It reliably insulates the turbine, keeping the hot side of the turbo hot and the cool side cool. As a result, the turbine, compressor, intercooler, and radiator can work more efficiently, increasing power and torque output and decreasing turbo lag. Preventing heat escaping from the turbine dramatically reduces the engine bay temperature which in turn means a longer life for heat-sensitive components and materials.

OUTER LAYER

Glass fiber fabric with PTFE* (Teflon) coating
Thanks to its impermeability, it prevents the hot surface of the turbine from getting into contact with ignitable fluids like oil or fuel, reducing/avoiding thermal risk. It also helps to protect and ensure durability and increases the lifetime of the insulating inner layer, since it has good thermal resistance, high flexibility and high wear resistance.

* PTFE, commonly known as Teflon, is a synthetic polymer consisting of two simple elements: carbon and fluorine. Due to its properties – it is highly flexible, chemical-resistant, thermal-resistant, non-stick and electrically resistant – it is used in a wide range of applications.

INNER LAYER

Mesh Foil
This is an ultra-thin, stainless steel fabric combined with glass and silicate fiber fabrics. Its abrasion and temperature resistance (depending on the applied glass and silicate fiber material) makes the blanket extremely stable and long-lasting.

OUTER LAYER/SIDES

Mesh Foil
The stainless-steel fabric is vibration- and galling-resistant. Applied on the sides of the blanket, it increases its lifetime.

INSULATION LAYER

Silicate fiber needle mat
Thanks to its low thermal conductivity, it keeps the heat in the turbine housing, providing maximum insulating efficiency. High vibration and temperature resistance (depending on the applied silicate fiber material (SNM750/SNM1000) ensures longer durability.

Long-term heat resistance: 1292 °F (700 °C)
