Underfloor Cooling
Our range of products also allows us to provide underfloor cooling all year round if required (for warmer climates) and we can also provide simultaneous underfloor heating and cooling – so one room heating and another room cooling at the same time from the same manifold. An underfloor cooling system works by the transfer of energy by radiant heat exchange. The floor is cooled to a temperature cooler than the surrounding air, the floor then absorbs radiant energy proportional to the temperature difference between the surface and the room and therefore reduces the radiant air temperature more than the temperature of the floor. Unlike an air conditioning system, where air is forced over a cooling element, an underfloor cooling system will pass chilled water from a ground source heat pump, an air source heat pump or chiller through pipes laid beneath the floor.
Thermo-Floor underfloor heating systems provide cost effective and energy efficient heating during the winter months but they can also be used to provide underfloor cooling in the summer months.
It Is More Cost Effective
Thermo-Floor underfloor cooling systems are more cost effective and energy efficient than air conditioning as the outside of the building accumulates less heat therefore reduces heat build up and consequently reduces energy consumption.
It Is More Comfortable And Healthier
Thermo-Floor underfloor cooling systems eliminate drafts, air pollution and dust circulation. Unlike air conditioning an underfloor cooling system will actually reduce the radiant temperature of the room rather than just blowing cold air, this gives the air a better quality.
It Looks Great!
Thermo-Floor underfloor cooling system is out of sight and there is no need for unsightly air conditioning units.
It Is Flexible
Thermo-Floor underfloor cooling systems allow you to have different rooms at different temperatures at the same time.
We offer our bespoke design service using full colour AutoCAD for each underfloor cooling project at no extra cost. We cover everything from preliminary discussions, through to dew point and humidity calculations to final installation by our own trained staff. We provide a zone drawing indicating the manifold positions, floor sections and pipe layout.
Cooling System Condensation
When designing your underfloor cooling system we also take into account condensation on cooled surfaces. At high relative humidity the cooling capacity of the underfloor cooling system is limited to its dew point.
A dew point sensor on the underfloor cooling system reduces the risk of condensation and ensures the cooling capacity is greater when relative humidity is lower.
The underfloor cooling system is also designed with a neutral zone of 3°c if the same systems is also to provide heating. This is to prevent the system switching between heating and cooling when only either heating or cooling is desired.
The systems also come with a safety high limit thermostat which will close the primary heating valve should water pass through the system any hotter than 55°C to eliminate overheating.
