THE HYDROGEN CHALLENGE:
Companies in hard-to-abate industries like shipping, heavy transportation, aviation, and power generation are seeking low-carbon alternatives to fossil fuels for their ships, vehicles, power plants, and industrial facilities. Hydrogen and hydrogen-derived ammonia do not release CO2 when burned, offering these companies a truly clean fuel alternative. However, most conventional low-carbon hydrogen production methods are inefficient, expensive, or highly carbon intensive. Traditional steam methane reforming and autothermal reforming hydrogen production processes either generate significant CO2 emissions, require the use of expensive hardware, or can even use toxic chemicals. This has made it difficult - environmentally and economically - for energy producers to justify upgrading their assets to produce low-carbon hydrogen.
  • Problem : To cut carbon emissions from heavy industry, chemical processes, transportation, and power generation, we must develop hydrogen generation that’s affordable and captures all the CO2 produced.
  • Solution : A better way to make hydrogen from natural gas that has zero direct emissions, higher efficiency, and superior economics.
  • Key Innovation : We revamped traditional reforming technologies and leverage oxy combustion to generate ultra-low carbon hydrogen at higher efficiency and lower costs while inherently capturing all the CO2 produced.
  • Status : Full-scale commercial projects using this well-proven reforming system are under development today.
