USGS Pygmy Current Meter for Shallow Stream Measurements

The USGS Pygmy Current Meter, at two-fifths the size of the standard Type AA current meter, is specifically designed for measuring shallow streams using a wading rod. It does not include a tailfin assembly. This instrument operates within a range of 0.1 to 4.9 feet per second (0.03 to 1.5 meters per second). The 2-inch diameter bucket wheel features six cups, and each full revolution of the wheel triggers a single contact closure. The pygmy meter package includes a carrying case, a USGS standard rating table available in either English or metric units, spare parts, a screwdriver, instrument oil, and a cleaning cloth. These components ensure the meter is well-maintained and ready for accurate hydrological measurements in field conditions.
