VISCOlab - Model PVT -High-Pressure and High-Temperature Viscosity Measurements System
The VISCOlab PVT Recirculating Bath System controls pressures to 20,000 psi and temperatures from -30º C to 190º C with a recirculating bath for minimal warm-up time. It controls sample flow with a simple three-valve plumbing configuration, and offers three configuration options for simplified operation. An easy-to-navigate graphical user interface integrates the bath, pressure gauge, and viscometer. This intuitive interface logs data from all of these sources to graphically display their values in real time.

Innovating Viscometers to Meet the Needs of a Changing Industry
Oil exploration is expanding into more extreme environments to meet continuing growth in world demand. Safely capitalizing on these opportunities is a challenge. The economics of an oil field are significantly impacted by the porosity of the rock structure and the viscosity of the reservoir fluid, which can be thousands of meters away from the drilling rigs and under the oceans. These conditions increasingly involve reservoir fluids at pressures and temperatures not previously encountered.
Working closely with the industry, Cambridge Viscosity’s applications team is tackling these challenges, with innovative technology for accurate, reliable, small-sample viscometry.
Deep-water drilling increases the pressures on the reservoir fluids, as well as the requirements for reservoir fluid analysis tools. In response to the demand for ultra-high pressure viscometry measurements, Cambridge Viscosity developed a high-pressure viscometer, the VISCOlab PVT-HP, which is rated to 43,000 psi (3,000bar).
New oil-recovery techniques are being developed for oil sands. The steam assisted gravity drainage method (SAGD) and other approaches require viscosity analysis performed at extremely high temperatures to be used effectively. Cambridge Viscosity is meeting this need with the VISCOlab PVT-HT, our new ultra-high-temperature viscometer version of our VISCOlab PVT that allows for high-pressure viscosity analysis at temperatures up to 315° C.
