Spray Drying by Atomization

The feed solution or suspension is sent through a rotary atomizer, a two fluid nozzle, or a high pressure nozzle creating extremely small droplets. The droplets are introduced into a current of hot air that will dehydrate, and spray dry the feed droplets instantly.

Advantages of Spray Drying by Atomization
  • High performance with low residence time for heat sensitive products
  • Water evaporation cools down the atomized droplets allowing the use of higher drying air temperatures without product degradation.
  • Full automation with latest distributed controls.
  • Installation and automation for single operator attendance.
  • Small product inventory inside the dryer
  • Continuous processing which is consistently and reproducibly monitored and controlled.
  • Homogeneous and consistent production.
  • Excellent presentation of final product

We perform preliminary evaluations at our test center located in the Northeastern United States. We have both open and closed loop Buchi systems available for formulation development as well as scale up pilot plant testing services. In addition, we can provide both short and long term toll production.

We are normally called upon to develop the best formulation of the client active to create a stable final powder or to create a powder which is bioavailable when ingested. We have decades of experience in assisting clients meet their goals for a dry stable powder..

If extremely short timelines and/or very tight budgets are of concern, we can locate and renovate existing spray drying equipment to your specifications and required delivery.

Our goal is always to ensure that our laboratory, pilot, and production spray dryers will fulfill our clients’ expectations for their specific needs.
