Martin - Waste Feeder System
A crane system lifts the waste from the refuse pit and transports it to the feed chute, which consists of a hopper and a chute shaft. The feed rams push the waste from the feed chute onto the grate. The waste column in the chute shaft prevents false air from leaking into the combustion system. Microwave level detectors report the height of the waste column to the crane operator. Bridging and obstructions are prevented to a large extent through the inclined side walls of the hopper and the flaring of the chute shaft. A shut-off damper is located underneath the feed hopper. It is closed when the plant is not operating.
Hydraulically-driven feed rams change the direction of the waste flow from vertical to horizontal. As a result, the waste that was compressed by gravity in the chute shaft is loosened up. The cycle time, stroke length and stroke speed are controlled by the combustion control system and optimized for a uniform combustion process on the grate. For grates with several grate runs, the individual feed rams are operated in staggered fashion.
In most cases, the transition between the feeder and grate is designed as a drop-off edge. However, it may also consist of an inclination.
