A good water softener can although last for 10 – 15 years. But if not properly maintained and serviced, they will not last for a long time. They are actually not meant to last for longer than 15 years, but proper care and measures can ensure the lifespan of the water softener and extended it to its absolute capacity.

Water softening is a process in which the positively charged ions of elements like calcium, magnesium, and sometimes iron are removed. It is these ions in hard water which make it difficult for products having other positively charged ions to dissolve in the water. Because of this, the water softening plant removes all the unwanted minerals from the water.
Hard water causes a lot of hair to fall. This is because hard water contains a greater quantity of mineral ions, such as calcium and magnesium. This produces a layer or film on the hair, making it difficult for moisture to penetrate through it. This results in leaving the hair dry and prone to damage and breakage. Leaving these issues unresolved and unattended, could even lead to hair loss.
Rainwater is naturally soft. Rainfall gives the purest form of water on Earth. But as this water makes its way through the ground and seeps into our waterways, it picks up dirt, harmful chemicals, pesticides and other minerals like chalk, lime and majorly calcium and magnesium and an amalgamation of these chemicals with soft water converts it to hard water. Since hard water contains certain unwanted minerals, it is preferred to convert it to soft water before drinking.
