IDT Biologika - Wave Bioreactor System

Wave Bioreactor systems are ready-to-process platforms for cell culture of biological products including live viruses. Culture medium and cells are aseptically transferred into a single-use, pre-sterilized bag, which is placed on an electric rocking base, inducing waves in the cell culture fluid to provide efficient mixing and oxygen transfer. This supports processes with volumes up to 200 L. We use a primary cell culture and not a permanent cell line. The virus seed is then aseptically transferred into the bag, permitting cell infection to occur. The infected culture is then incubated and subsequently harvested. The wave action limits shear stress on the cells in comparison to traditional stirred tanks. The bag is discarded after use, eliminating cleaning and sterilization to save time and mitigate cross-contamination. Wave bioreactors are another way to bring flexibility and speed to upstream processing.
