Wave Glider - Unmanned Ocean Robots
Liquid Robotics designs and manufactures Wave Gliders, the first wave and solar powered unmanned ocean robots. With our partners we address many of the planet’s greatest challenges, by transforming how to assess, monitor, and protect the ocean. We solve critical problems for defense, commercial, and science customers. Energy harvesting and propulsion are critical for unmanned ocean robots operating in the middle of the ocean. Our engineers answered these challenges with the Wave Glider SV3. It delivers greater energy harvesting, additional propulsion, and new capabilities which expand the range of applications and solutions available to customers.

Applications
The Wave Glider platform incorporates the latest advancements in energy harvesting and propulsion. Our energy system, software, and platform durability enable our partners and customers to integrate sensors and payloads to meet a wide-range of mission requirements.
How it Works
Converting Wave Motion Into Propulsion
Wave energy is greatest at the water’s surface, decreasing rapidly with increasing depth. The Wave Glider’s unique two-part architecture exploits this difference in energy to provide forward propulsion.
Autonomous Navigation: Real-Time Communications
Operate the Wave Glider individually or in fleets with fewer pilots and less risk. Change missions in real-time to adapt to new operational requirements. Other key capabilities include:
- Programmable course navigation including precise hold-station capabilities
- Vessel detection and avoidance
- Multi-vehicle fleet operations
- Flexible piloting, sea-side control, and 3rd party navigation support
Open Sensor and Payload Integration Architecture
A flexible design makes it easy to reconfigure or adjust onboard payloads on the fly. The optimized motion and sound isolation systems and persistence make the Wave Glider well suited for towed acoustic sensors.
- Plug and play payloads
- Multiple sensor placement options
- Payload health check sensors
- Massive towing capability
