Advanced Leak Detection Services for Water Loss Reduction
In an ideal world, a water utility will control its NRW rate in two ways: (1) by reducing the number of larger leaks and pipe bursts by finding and fixing small leaks as early as possible, and (2) by minimising the leak run rate of each individual non-surfacing leak. We call this proactive leak monitoring. A utility wants to know about each leak in the distribution network: When does it appear. Where exactly is it. Is it stable or does it grow. Is the audible loud noise a leak at all, or is it another constant noise source.

The correlating leak noise sensor will not transmit data using an in-built radio module, but it will feed its data via cable connection to the AMI system’s radio transmission unit (RTU). This RTU will be built into a composite chamber lid for optimal RF permeability and will require high-power RF modules for long-range data transmission. The AMI system will also have to facilitate fast transmission of large data packs as well as milli-second synchronisation of all RTUs.
GUTERMANN has to date integrated with two different AMI providers, with Aclara’s STAR ZONESCAN in the USA and with Veolia’s Homerider (now Birdz) AMI System in Europe.
