In the focus area Sustainability, we combine our knowledge and experience in the field of process technology to that end. The emphasis is on capturing and processing CO2 released during processes. We do not think of CO2 as polluting waste, rather as a raw material for new products. Our aim is to contribute to the development of a circular economy and to help companies take steps towards a sustainable process.

Climate change targets 2030-2050

The Dutch government is taking measures to protect the Netherlands against the effects of climate change. One of these measures concerns the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, which are responsible for global warming. The government has made national and international agreements on this, including through the United Nations Climate Change Convention (1992), the Kyoto Protocol (1997) and the UN climate summit in Paris (2016), during which it was agreed to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius.

To achieve this goal, the 28 European member states committed to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 40% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. However, the Dutch government has set itself the target of reducing emissions by 49%. By 2050, CO2 emissions must have been reduced by 95% compared to 1990 levels.

Innovative CO2 solutions

Brusche Process Technology has various solutions for processing and capturing CO2. Our CO2 solutions provide the answer to carbon capture issues, specifically for the industry and waste processing sector.

We also have pioneering solutions in the field of CO2 liquefaction. These solutions can be seen in industry and in the waste and energy sector. Brusche Process Technology also has ready-to-use solutions to liquefy CO2, making it a valuable basic ingredient for the production of beverages or biogas upgrading, for example.

Brusche Process Technology offers several CO2 recycling systems that meet the most common market needs.

A special market segment is shipping. International agreements have been made for shipping. These agreements are in line with the Paris climate agreement to reduce CO2 emissions. They are also in line with other environmental agreements, such as the reduction of waste disposal from ships.

In 2018, the IMO committed to reduce CO2 emission from shipping, agreeing the following targets:

Average CO2 emissions must be 40% lower in 2030 than in 2008.
Average CO2 emissions must be reduced by 70% by 2050, compared to 2008.
The sector aims to make sea shipping completely emission-free before the end of this century. In addition to these targets, the annual CO2 emissions of all international maritime shipping must be 50% less than in 2008 by 2050.

Brusche Process Technology would like to help devise and develop solutions for this sector in the field of CO2 reduction. In principle, our technologies are suitable for use on ships.

From idea to reality

Brusche Process Technology advises companies at various stages with regard to the development and realisation of processes that play a role in achieving sustainability objectives. We have specific products for that in the field of CO2 capture and processing, but we are also happy to help devise alternative routes, such as the use of hydrogen and mineral recovery.

Feasibility studies

Processes such as the capture and processing of carbon dioxide are new and innovative. Brusche Process Technology has experience with this new technology and can help prepare feasibility studies and subsequently design a business case. Our knowledge and experience lie in the field of Carbon Capture Storage and Carbon Capture Usage. Besides considering the required investments, the business case also contributes ideas about how the generated CO2 can be remarketed. We even go as far as to provide guaranteed prices for the CO2. We can also help you secure project funding on the basis of the business case. For this we collaborate with various partners in the market.

Conceptual design

Based on the principles set out in a feasibility study, Brusche Process Technology can help make the transition from thoughts and ideas to reality. The first stage is the conceptual design. During this stage, the engineers will transform the ideas into a pilot set-up. If this set-up meets expectations, it can be scaled up to a demonstration plant that forms the basis for the final factory.

Realisation

Brusche Process Technology is happy to handle the final conversion of a pilot set-up and/or a demonstration plant to a final factory. For that, we collaborate with colleagues from the other Brusche departments, but also with specialists from other companies. We form teams that reinforce one another and create synergy from various disciplines.
