Built Environment & Renewables
Renewable energy is energy that comes from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, and geothermal heat. We are also interested in other forms of 'low carbon' energy. In the context of carbon innovation, the Built Environment includes the planning, design, building, construction, operation and refurbishment of all buildings and infrastructure.
Who we work with
Arup is a global multidisciplinary consultancy, and has done some interesting work in Scotland on sustainable building refurbishment. It has presented at an ECCI event on the subject of revitalising its own Edinburgh office at South Queensferry.
Castle Rock Edinvar Housing Association (CREHA). ECCI has assisted CREHA in accessing feasibility funding from the Technology Strategy Board for testing out innovative technologies in the refurbishment of a former school building now in their hands.
Chop Cloc has developed an innovative control device for domestic heating systems. ECCI has supported with advice, a promotion opportunity at a low carbon showcase event, and referral to the Low Carbon Building Technologies Gateway at Edinburgh Napier University, which has provided product animations.
