Carbon Reduction Commitment: Energy Efficiency Scheme
Larger businesses and public sector organisations must get ready for a major shift in the way they manage their use of energy. The Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) Energy Efficiency Scheme was launched by the UK government with the aim of reducing carbon emissions and improving energy efficiency.
The scheme consists of phases, with the first now completed running from April 2010 to March 2014, required anyone with a half-hourly settled meter to register under the CRC scheme & those with more than 6,000,000 kWhs of half hourly & smart metered supplies to participate. Phase 2 runs from 1 April 2014 to 31 March 2019& for those clientsusing at least 6,000,000 kWh/yearon settled Half Hourly Meters they must participate. The CRC Energy Efficiency scheme is self-administering and the penalties for failing to comply are significant £/tonne of CO₂.
