Carrier Contact Program

SHARE

When an incident occurs, emergency responders, manufacturers, shippers, and transportation companies rely on CHEMTREC to provide critical communication and technical assistance. As a carrier, you should too! CHEMTREC’s Carrier Contact Program is a voluntary database of carrier contact information, for use in verbally contacting the carrier in the event of an incident.  Having carrier information is on file with CHEMTREC facilitates immediate, accurate responses in emergency situations.

In some instances, on-scene personnel may only be able to provide the name of the carrier and may not be able to identify the product and/or the name of the shipper.  When a carrier’s contact information is on file with CHEMTREC, CHEMTREC can contact the carrier to obtain the identity of the product and/or the shipper.  In other instances, an emergency responder will call CHEMTREC to report an incident involving a carrier before the incident is known to the carrier`s dispatch center.   In these situations, a carrier that has provided CHEMTREC with a 24 hour contact can be notified that one of its vehicles is involved in an incident.

CHEMTREC’s Carrier Contact Program is voluntary and participation is free of charge.

Remember, if a carrier is going to act as a shipper of hazardous materials, an annual CHEMTREC registration (USA + Canada Authorization or Worldwide Authorization) is required. Any company that lists CHEMTREC on its shipping documents or SDS must have an active registration with CHEMTREC for which the proper fees have been paid. Furthermore, participation in the CHEMTREC Carrier Contact Program DOES NOT authorize carriers to provide the CHEMTREC phone numbers for the benefit of use on shipping documents or SDS.

With participation in the Carrier Contact Program, CHEMTREC can help the carrier:

  • Save valuable time in the event of an incident
  • Supply information on damaged hazardous materials to its clients
  • Monitor safety in the carrier`s terminals
  • Evaluate the need for training
