Chemicals are used daily in the supply and treatment of drinking water and treatment of sewage. While there is an upward trend in chemical use, ongoing work is being carried out to improve efficiency. This has included the adoption of a sustainable approach at Tewkesbury sewage works for the removal of phosphorus through the use of the biological nutrient removal (BNR) process.
