We recognise the need for credibility to ensure effective delivery of climate change services in this challenging and rapidly growing area. Our internationally recognised experts have contributed to UK and international policy development and major scientific assessments; they have delivered ground breaking strategies to address a wide range of issues. Our staff are trained to the highest levels and have a wealth of experience from around the globe.
Our climate change specialists draw upon our extensive expertise across environmental, planning and engineering sectors. We deliver ground breaking approaches for climate change adaptation to a wide range of clients. Our expertise covers:
-
Science - we have contributed to the major international assessments on climate change. We understand the latest science and use this knowledge to deliver the best solutions to our client.
-
Planning - we advise countries on policy and strategy for adapting to climate change. We helped Abu Dhabi develop its Abu Dhabi Environment 2030 strategy, and we have also developed a long term sustainable development plan for Mauritius, in both cases allowing for adaptation to the effects of climate change.
-
Infrastructure - our experts have provided advice on strategies for the UK government to build resilience to climate change into infrastructure. We have advised water companies in the UK, such as Anglian Water, on the potential impact of climate change on water resources. We emphasise the need to look at integrated solutions for climate change. Conflicts may occur between impacts, adaptation and mitigation and an integrated approach must be taken to building resilience into solutions.
-
Natural disaster planning and reconstruction - all communities are vulnerable to natural disasters, whether from extreme flood or tidal events, intense droughts, or wildfires. Climate change may affect the frequency or severity of such events. We have worldwide experience in flood refuge and shelter design, post-conflict reconstruction, emergency water supplies and infrastructure, and the management of NGO and community support programmes. We work with clients to understand the causes of disasters and to plan avoidance strategies to help protect assets and communities
-
Education and training - we help communities develop resilience to climate change. For example, through our PSWAM prIoject in Bangladesh we have developed programmes for teacher training in the coastal areas so that they may introduce concepts of climate adaptation into school curricula.
