Collection of Water and Sediment Samples Service
While laboratory testing is an important part of environmental assessments, the collection of high-quality field samples is a pre-requisite to obtaining technically accurate and legally defensible results. Furthermore, the evaluation of actual “real-world” or in situ conditions in the field is becoming increasingly important in the characterization and resolution of potential environmental impacts. Pacific EcoRisk field sampling teams are well-trained and fully equipped (including a fleet of sampling vehicles and sampling boats) to provide high quality sampling of creeks, rivers, agricultural drains, lakes, ponds, and bays and estuaries including sampling during inclement conditions and/or on limited notice.
Our field services include but are not limited to:
- Surface water and sediment monitoring
- Collection of water and sediment samples
- Stormwater monitoring
- Collection of fish
- Collection of benthic invertebrates
- “Clean technique” sampling
- Pesticide application monitoring
- Ag Discharge/Ag Waiver Monitoring
- Watershed monitoring
- Biological Assessment
- Rapid Bioassessment
- Physical/habitat characterization
Toxicity Monitoring of the Ambient Waters of San Francisco Bay
The San Francisco Estuary Regional Monitoring Program (RMP) was established by the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board and the non-profit San Francisco Estuary Institute to develop a long-term data base on contaminants in the estuary. As part of this prestigious project, Pacific EcoRisk is performing ‘short-term chronic’ toxicity tests on ambient water collected from throughout the estuary.
“Clean Technique” Field Sampling for the San Francisco Bay Site-Specific Water Quality for Copper and Nickel Project
As part of region-wide effort to develop site-specific water quality for copper and nickel in San Francisco Bay (sponsored by the Bay Area Discharger’s Association, the North Coast Dischargers, and the Western States Petroleum Association), Pacific EcoRisk managed all project sampling and analytical components. This included “clean technique” collection of water samples for a wide variety of types of analyses.
Monitoring of Wetland Sediment Toxicity under the Bay Protection and Toxic Clean-up Program
As part of an on-going evaluation of tidal marsh sediment quality, Pacific EcoRisk has performed numerous solid-phase sediment tests with the amphipod Eohaustorius estuarius, 28-day sediment bioaccumulation tests with the bivalve Macoma nasuta, bivalve embryo tests of sediment porewater, and sediment-water interface testing with fish embryos. This project included extensive characterization of both sediment , sediment elutriate, and sediment porewater chemistry.
Ambient Water Toxicity and Chemistry Monitoring for the Sacramento River Watershed Program
Pacific EcoRisk is managing all sampling and analytical components of the US EPA’s Sacramento River Watershed Program (SRWP). This includes collection of water samples for a wide variety of types of analyses, management of numerous sub-contracting analytical laboratories, performance of toxicity testing and TIEs, and representation to and interaction with a wide variety of stakeholders including local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
