The Evolution of Vitruvius: From Local to National Challenges

The Vitruvio SRL Società Benefit initiative has its roots in the work carried out, starting in the late 1990s, initially individually, by the two founding partners: Francesco Causo and Lara Lopez . After gaining solid experience in the environmental engineering sector , with a specific focus on design and consultancy relating to urban hygiene services, Francesco and Lara decided to take on an ambitious challenge : to establish a company specializing in the design of municipal waste (MSW) management services , infrastructure and logistics supporting the MSW cycle, as well as in technical and economic-financial consultancy relating to the management of collection and environmental services.

Vitruvio SRL was founded in 2011 , headquartered in Racale (Lecce), a complex area with limited resources and significant logistical challenges . Despite initial challenges, the company has managed to grow and consolidate its position in a highly specialized and competitive sector , becoming a national benchmark in the design and consultancy field for waste collection and environmental services.

Resilience, the continuous search for innovative solutions and constant updating with respect to ARERA regulations and standards have allowed Vitruvio SRL to establish itself as a leader in the sector , achieving the national record for the number of RU collection projects developed annually.

Since 2014, Vitruvio has been a partner and consultant for CONAI – Consorzio Nazionale Imballaggi , for which it has prepared, as part of the so-called “territorial projects” financed by public bodies, feasibility plans, design of municipal waste collection services and assistance in the start-up phases of the services (so-called start-up) and feasibility studies for the transition to a pay-as-you-throw tariff.

As part of his membership in Confindustria Cisambiente, Francesco Causo served as President of the "Relations with ARERA and Tariffs-Procurement" thematic area from 2019 to 2024, contributing the extensive expertise Vitruvio has gained in ARERA regulation.

From December 2022 to 2024 , Vitruvio members served on the Technical Scientific Committee of the Operate Foundation , which is committed to promoting the circular economy and sustainable waste management. Their participation also took the form of speakers at seminars and webinars promoted by the Foundation, focusing on the relationship between contracting authorities and waste management service providers and the integration of the Public Contracts Code and ARERA regulations in regulated environmental services.

Vitruvio becomes a Benefit Corporation

In May 2022 , Vitruvio SRL became a Benefit Corporation , integrating social and environmental objectives into its corporate bylaws, and thus realizing its commitment to operate in a responsible, sustainable and transparent manner towards all stakeholders.
