Deal Pier Refurbishment

Deal Pier was constructed in the 1950s and comprises concrete encased castellated steel beams supporting a reinforced concrete deck. The piled foundations are of steel tube encased in concrete. Significant deterioration had occurred as a result of the maritime environment therefore a phased improvement programme was established to fully restore Deal Pier to ensure that the future of the Pier was safeguarded. Tony Gee was employed to assess and report on the structural adequacy of the existing deck to enable the refurbishment operations to be completed.
