Determination of Shadow Immission
Residents living in close proximity of a single wind turbine and especially entire wind farms, often feel they polute the landscape. Apart from the influence of wind turbines on the look of the scenery, shadow casting is of major importance at the receptor points in the area. Turning rotor blades cause a flashing effect by blocking sunlight that is often perceived by residents as very disturbing. Therefore, the determination of optical emissions of wind turbines is an essential part of wind farm planning.
For the propagation of shadow immission, factors that must be taken in to account are wind turbins height, position of the sun and the relation between the positions of the turbine and the receptor point. The main task is to determin the periodical casting of shadows at a shadow receptor point at a certain time of day and during a certain season. As part of a mandatory site assessment, our experts will analyze the planned location of every turbine and all relevant shadow receptor points.
WindGuard offers you:
- Determination of the astronomical possible versus the actual probable shading
- Graphical and calendrical description of the cast shadow at a certain receiver point
- Conduction of all documents needed for the approval process including the shadow propagation
- Prognosis of the potential necessary shut down times
- Development of a shutdown concepts for turbines in terms of cast shadow
