What are some benefits of weld overlay to your companies? Firstly, it gives your pressure vessels and piping better corrosion and/or wear resistance, which greatly improves their life span. This saves you money in the long run! Further, it can also save costs on the vessel itself, because you can avoid using a high-priced alloy on the full thickness of the vessel. This is especially true for thick, high-pressure units and piping.

As a weld overlay cladding company, we have a wide range of experience, especially for use on vessels. In other words, we have worked with a wide array of different overlay / base metal combinations. For example, we have applied 347 stainless on 2 ¼ chrome (P22) base, Inconel 625 on carbon base, and 316L stainless on carbon base to name a few.

Our Methods

Our primary method Electroslag Strip Cladding (ESW). However, when the diameter is too small for ESW, we use either SAW, TIG, or GMAW; much depends on the material and shape.

By using the ESW method and the other arc welding methods, we can make one of the strongest bonds between layers, when compared to other cladding methods. Overlay welding can also speed up completion time, because it can often be performed with materials that are in stock. We design, build, and strip clad your pressure vessel, flanges, or plate (vessel components) all in-house.

Further, we have experience in using explosion bonding cladding. It is also known as explosion cladding or explosion welding. So, whether you prefer to use explosion bonded or roll bonded clad plate for your vessel or piping, we have you covered! As a reminder, even if you go with using explosion or roll bonded clad plate, there is still a great deal of weld overlay to be done. This is because the vessel still needs overlay at the joints and at the nozzle ID’s and faces.
