Liquid-solid separation is one of Kemira’s key competences. DDigestate dewateringigestate out of a biogas production process is still rich in various nutrients. It makes sense that these nutrients should be returned to the farmland where new biogas substrate is grown.
As liquid digestate cannot be applied during all seasons of the year, and often the transportation distances are too far, dewatering of the digestate is essential.
Dewatering not only reduces the sludge volumes to be handled but also improves reject water quality as it enables easier and more reliable nitrogen removal and subsequent water reuse as process water.
