The final digestate contains a considerable amount of water mixed with fibers and nutrients. This can serve as an excellent fertilizer, but if direct use on fields is not allowed, the nutrients need to be dewatered. Optimized dewatering results will also improve reject water quality. This enables easier and more reliable nitrogen removal and water reuse as process water. Liquid-solid separation is one of Kemira’s key competences.
