Our digital services for the built environment capitalise on the power of data.Arup has long led the way in digital innovation in the built environment. Our digital services team unlock data and create tools that improve performance, enhance sustainability and encourage collaboration.
For example, our Arup Inspect iPad app is revolutionising site inspections and audits. By enabling users to capture data accurately and communicate it immediately to stakeholders, the app raises project communication and accountability to a higher level.
Making the invisible visible
Many of our digital solutions are a direct result of the research and innovation that Arup funds and fosters. A digital approach enables us to apply innovation across projects, setting data free from spreadsheets so that it can be used to drive improvement.
The culmination of two years of Arup research, Office Realtime is a data visualisation tool that guides sustainable behaviour change. It displays statistics such as office copying and printing, computer use, energy and water consumption or daily cycling numbers. By benchmarking these against industry norms, Office Realtime gives people targets to change their behaviour.
Our digital tools enable unprecedented levels of collaboration. Arup’s design teams are using Building Information Modelling (BIM) to transform the way that we design cities, buildings and systems to improve performance throughout their entire life cycle. Meanwhile, our Collaborative Community Map is increasing participation in community engagement activities, and helping project teams map their comments easily.
We also create digital tools collaboratively, working with our partners to develop an existing tool to match their needs or creating a completely new digital service. Whatever the challenge, we welcome approaches from companies eager to collaborate on digital innovation.
