Diverse Workforce Planning
Mortenson is committed to providing meaningful and lasting benefits to the communities in which we work. We are proud to be an industry leader in promoting a diverse workforce and maximizing the participation of small, women, and minority owned business enterprises (SWMBE) on our projects. Our success is leveraged from our Community Participation Program, which was introduced more than 20 years ago and has been implemented successfully on projects across the nation. Key elements of the plan include:
SWMBE Participation
- Structuring bid packages to allow for maximum participation consistent with the availability of M/WBE firms in a specific scope of work.
- Maintaining and monitoring subcontractor reporting and reinforcing project goals throughout the project.
- Conducting open houses and workshops to explain the bid packages, schedule, and process to interested bidders throughout the procurement process.
- Communicating and advertising opportunities via letters, faxes, e-mail, and advertisement in targeted local papers, web-based information posting and telephone follow-up contacts.
Workforce Diversity
- Collaborate with community-based organizations for the recruitment and referral of women and minorities on our projects.
- Implement the Community Workforce Program which will educate the workforce regarding viable career options and provide a hands-on industry experience.
- Sponsor an internship program that will offer high school students paid summer internships to expose them to the construction industry and give students the opportunity to gain experience in varied aspects of the construction business
