Duro Process

Our Duro process is considered a recycle/treatment option under the EPA waste hierarchy. Based on accepted solidification and stabilization technology, this service includes the engineering for waste disposition and pit closure, the work to recycle/treat the waste, and the confirmatory testing of the recycled/treated material. This proprietary process was developed by Scott over several years, for use on freshwater mud and cuttings, oil-based mud and cuttings, and some saltwater mud and cuttings, too. The process treats drilling waste so that the reclaimed pit area can be reused as a load-bearing structure for setting frac tanks or other equipment during completion or after completion. This is typically accomplished by solidifying and stabilizing the mud and cuttings within the confines of the pit area. When there is no load-bearing structure use for the pit area, the Duro process is considered a treatment/disposal option.

Scott’s Duro process is most effective when one or more of the following is present:

  • The waste has high contaminant levels
  • The waste is being transported offsite for disposal

Both the Duro process and Firmus process provide similar benefits by preparing mud and cuttings through solidification and stabilization to meet supporting load criteria and environmental closure criteria. The Duro process also immobilizes the contaminants to reduce their mobility in the environment. By recycling the waste to support loads over the pit area, the customer’s environmental footprint is reduced, the use of other construction materials is reduced, and the potential for future liability from the waste is reduced.

The Duro process is an excellent way to reduce waste handling and disposal cost.
