Electronics Recycling and Electronic Waste
The modern digital world is creating a growing amount of electronic waste, also referred to as e-waste. All electronic waste can be reused or broken down, and the materials recycled. Republic Services provides reliable, safe and cost-effective electronic waste collection and recycling as part of our commitment to protecting the planet.
Service Performance That Evolves With You
Did you know that your electronic waste, also known as e-waste, should never be thrown away in your regular trash? That’s because electronics may contain metals such as mercury and lead which can be harmful to people and the environment.
Electronic devices contain lead and mercury, which if released into the environment, can create health hazards. For example, the cathode ray tubes in older TVs and computers typically contain about 4 to 7 pounds of lead. To protect our environment, it is important to ensure that electronic waste is recycled properly.
Republic Services’ e-waste disposal solutions vary by location and typically include:
- Televisions including flat screens and CRTs
- Computers and telephones (including cell phones)
- VCRs, DVDs and CD players and copiers
While Republic Services may not pick up your e-waste on your trash or recycling days, we do offer drop-off sites and special pickup days in many locations. Your community may also sponsor e-waste collection programs and commercial customers can speak to their Waste Stream Advisor to arrange special collections.
