By choosing a low-cost recycling partner without a good reputation you open yourself up to risks like:

  • Counterfeiting : Proprietary items being sold on the open market.
  • Data Theft : Company, customer or employee information stolen with intent of being used fraudulently.
  • Dumping : Improperly disposed of electronics/metal bearing equipment can leach metals into the soil and contaminate water supplies which can result in fines, negative publicity and even loss of business.
  • Storage Costs : Associated with storing equipment rather than having to deal with finding a solution for properly processing the material.

A reputable partner like AER Worldwide can mitigate those risks and provide customized global solutions to handle your entire end-of-life material management needs. Assets that cannot be reused or remarketed are recycled using our ISO 14001 certified processes and are de-manufactured, separating the components by primary materials and using them to generate commodity-grade materials such as Plastic, Copper, Steel, Gold and other metals.

AER Worldwide complies with all applicable federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations, including the Solid Waste Disposal Act; the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA); and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976 (RCRA).  Our understanding of, and compliance with, these regulations ensures that your organization is acting responsibly and mitigates any risk of negative publicity or loss of revenue from inappropriate materials recycling processes.

AER Worldwide is committed to practicing the highest standards of responsible recycling. This commitment is grounded in a business and compliance model that promotes re-use, encourages reduction of waste and ensures proper recycling of non-reusable materials. As a result of our environmental leadership, we have become the trusted industry leader and recycling partner for many of the largest, most respected corporate brands in the world.

Responsible Recycling (R2) Practices
AER supports and complies with the Responsible Recycling (R2) Practices, drafted with and supported by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. The R2 practices are a set of guidelines for accredited certification programs to assess electronics recyclers’ environmental, worker health & safety , and security practices. These guidelines include principles and specific practices for disassembling or reclaiming used electronics equipment including those exported for refurbishment.

Our Partners
AER Worldwide certifies all of its recycling partners through an extensive annual audit. Upon successful completion of the detailed audit, we also require our recycling partners to sign a contract binding them to our environmental principles. Any down-stream partners of our first level recycling partners, often two and three levels down; are also audited and all materials shipped to these partners is tracked and documented to ensure that all materials are properly accounted for and fully recycled.

Beyond being ISO 14001 certified, AER utilizes the principles and practices of ISO to maintain the industry’s highest standards for operational excellence and continuous improvement. Our certified Environmental, Health and Safety Management System (EHSMS) provides a foundation to safely and properly manage the flow of materials through our audited partners’ factories. This ensures that:

  1. AER Worldwide maximizes the reuse of retired IT assets through refurbishing, rebuilding, repairing and harvesting functional parts from recovered materials, and only sells functional and complete computer systems or parts to its remarketing customers.
  2. None of the IT equipment or components are disposed of (i.e., thrown away or discarded) and all of the IT equipment and all of the IT equipment’s components are recycled and/or destroyed in accordance with all applicable rules, regulations, laws, ordinances, and statutes.
  3. Neither AER Worldwide nor its recycling partners export non-functional computer systems or parts to non-OECD countries.

Certified Destruction
AER Worldwide understands the need for secure destruction of proprietary and data bearing equipment.  As one of our value added programs we offer on-site, witnessed hard drive destruction services without charging a premium for the service.

Downstream Transparency
All of our downstream partners go through a lengthy audit and prequalification process prior to processing one pound of equipment.  Your data and reputation are important to use, and we take their safeguarding very seriously.

Commodity Recovery
AER Worldwide’s e-recycling services ensure that you maximize recovery value on each and every product, part and material in your end-of-life product stream. We give old equipment new life, while addressing data security and environmental concerns.

The e-Waste Recycling Process
Through our demanufacturing process, we separate re-sellable component parts such as hard drives, circuit motherboards and memory modules, as well as ferrous, nonferrous and precious metals and plastics. AER’s materials management process involves:

  • Sorting product by component categories with a manufacturer-part number focus
  • Sorting commodity scrap and preparing it for resale as raw material
  • Sorting and testing components, then reselling them to repair shops and manufacturers.

Unlike data sanitization which focuses on security and risk mitigation, our e-waste recycling objective is simple: maximize value recovery in the fastest time possible.

AER Worldwide’s Environmental Policy drives our approach to implementing best practices for our customers in support of Sustainable Computing. Guided by the basic principle of “reuse first, recycle second,” we find markets for working equipment. Products beyond their useful life or marketability are broken down to component level for reuse/recycling according to and exceeding all federal, state, local and international regulations and electronic waste (e-waste) standards.
