Environmental Assessment Services

SHARE
Environmental assessment is a process to predict the environmental effects of proposed initiatives before they are carried out. All developmental activities use natural resources as raw material and the wastes generated are disposed into different environmental media. An environmental assessment identifies possible environmental effects due to developmental activities, proposes measures to mitigate adverse effects, and predicts whether there will be significant adverse environmental effects, even after the mitigation is implemented.

The two main purposes of environmental assessment are to minimize or avoid adverse environmental effects before they occur and to incorporate environmental factors into decision making.

Environmental assessment should be conducted as early as possible in the planning and proposal stages of a project for the analysis to be valuable to decision makers and to incorporate the mitigative measures into the proposed plans. Timely and efficient environmental assessments result in more informed decision making that supports sustainable development.

Our services in this vertical include the following;

  • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)
  • Environmental Management Plan (EMP)
  • Environmental Modeling
  • Resettlement and Rehabilitation Plan (R&R)
  • Traffic Assessment
  • Socio Economic Assessment
  • Environmental Audit
  • Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) as per ASTM

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is one of the proven management tools for incorporating environmental concerns in development process and also in improved decision making. EIA studies are mandatory for obtaining environmental clearance prior to construction for many categories of industry in India. The study needs to be carried out based on the EIA Notification published by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Govt. of India during the year 2006 and its subsequent amendments.

The signs of stress on the scarce natural resources are evident from the deteriorating air quality, soil degradation, polluted rivers and streams and in the general status of environment in various regions. The envisaged benefits from development projects cannot be fully realized unless they are environmentally and socially sound and sustainable.

The growing awareness, over the years, on environmental protection and sustainable development has further given emphasis on sound environmental management practices through preparation of Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) by conducting various Environmental Assessments for minimizing the impacts from developmental activities. Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) is a report prepared for identifying potential or existing environmental contamination liabilities of a site. The analysis, often called an ESA, typically addresses both the underlying land as well as physical improvements to the site. Contaminated sites are often referred to as "brownfield sites." ESA comprises of two phases.

The Phase I ESA is generally considered the first step in the process of environmental due diligence. The process for performing a Phase I site assessment is based on ASTM Standard E 1527-05.

The Phase II Environmental Site Assessment may be conducted if a site is considered contaminated. A more detailed investigation involving chemical analysis for hazardous substances and/or petroleum hydrocarbons is carried out. The process for performing a Phase II site assessment is based on ASTM Standard E 1903-97.
