The aim of the study was to establish the existing status of the physical, biological and human environmental components within and in the vicinity of the project site, determine the potential impacts of activities related to the proposed integrated scheme, including the oil terminal with heated and unheated storage tanks, tanker and barge berths and all other infrastructure and facilities, and identify appropriate mitigation and abatement measures for impact considered potentially adverse to the surrounding environment.

The project falls within the European Union-supported TEMPUS programme, in cooperation with Cairo University`s Faculty of Engineering and the Ecole des Mines, Nancy, France.
