Environmental Risk Assessment Services
Environmental risk assessment is the process of determining whether an environmental hazard has the potential to cause harm to exposed people or ecosystems. An environmental hazard may be either a chemical or biological agent that has been released to the environment or is uncontrolled. Some hazards are released intentionally (pesticide applications), some are accidental (spills or failures of containment units), and some are natural (toxic molds).
In all cases, it is the combination of the inherent toxicity of the chemicals and the potential and extent of exposure to that chemical that will determine the level of risk to human health or the environment. Many remedial programs, such as the RCRA Corrective Action program, rely heavily on environmental risk assessment and are most successful when risk-based decision making is utilized throughout the process.
