Cathodic Protection

A successful cathodic protection program can help water utilities significantly increase the lifespan of their assets and reduce annual maintenance costs due to corrosion-based failures. EPCOR is currently responsible for the annual installation of over 800 anodes for cathodic protection in the City of Edmonton.

Cathodic protection is used to reduce the rate that underground assets corrode when they are exposed to the elements. This is extremely important in the downtown core where the majority of water mains are made of cast iron.

Cathodic protection services:

  • Hydrovac excavation of water mains
  • Installation of anodes
  • Environmental reclamation of job sites
  • Continual research and implementation of industry best practices
