Field Services
Normandeau is well known for our ability to conduct complex field programs and to mobilize personnel and necessary equipment to complete projects on time and within budget. Field Operation Supervisors, who have up to 35 years of experience collecting samples from terrestrial, aquatic and marine environments, oversee our field teams. They have the ability to design collection programs and perform sampling activities to the exacting standards based on both regulatory and client needs.

We have performed field monitoring of fish, plankton, benthos, soils, sediment, wildlife, plants, drinking water, and groundwater for 40 years. Our monitoring projects include the sampling of: estuary, marine, lake, and stream environments; lagoons; monitoring wells; and marine outfalls. All our projects follow an in-house QA/QC program for field, lab and data components, which are based on state and federal sampling protocols. We are frequently involved in large, multi-year sampling and monitoring programs which require exacting standards to ensure data consistency.
We also maintain an extensive inventory of boats, vehicles, and other equipment necessary to successfully implement sample collection programs. Our fleet includes 37-foot trawlers, 42-foot diesel research vessels, 25-foot high-speed research vessels, coring barges, numerous workboats ranging in size from 18 to 22 feet, and specially equipped electrofishing boats. Our inventory of field sampling gear includes numerous types of fish nets and traps (e.g., gill nets, fyke nets, otter trawls, and seines), backpack electrofishing units, benthos samplers, and several types of current meters, YSI water quality testing instruments, sediment grab samplers, gravity corer, vibracorer, Loran C, and global positioning systems (GPS).
