Fossil-free Development Services
Research and development focusing on HYBRIT technology comprises three main phases that overlap to some extent. The development work is carried out with the support of the Energy Agency , and practical trials are currently carried out both on a laboratory scale and in pilot plants that are built or modified for the purpose. Going directly from laboratory scale to tests and production on an industrial scale would involve risks both production-technically and financially, and here pilot-scale trials become an important step on the way. The third stage, the demonstration scale, aims to show that the technology can become technically and economically feasible on an industrial scale. In the demonstration phase, the development work is carried out with the support of the EU`s Innovation Fund.
Research and development on a demonstration scale
During the ongoing experimental development of direct reduction on a pilot scale, many answers are given regarding direct reduction with hydrogen. However, the process and the concept are complex and extensive, so in order to imitate the industrial process as much as possible, and among other things to determine the choice of technology, it is important to carry out a so-called demonstration. The demonstration scale should provide a technically proven, commercially viable and optimized solution on a full industrial scale.
