Geotechnical Capabilities

SHARE

Ecologia are pleased to offer our clients a comprehensive range of in-situ geotechnical testing and field sampling techniques, conducted using our fleet of in-house drilling rigs and ancillary equipment. We understand that good data and quality samples are essential in the production of an accurate site model. All of our drilling staff are trained in the correct application of testing and sampling systems in order to ensure the highest quality service.

Field Based Testing

We offer a broad range of in-situ testing in compliance with Eurocode 7 and BS5930 including:

  • In-field, In-Situ testing via Standard Penetration Test (SPT), Dynamic Probing Super Heavy (DPSH) for empirical geotechnical characterisation of the ground
  • Cone Penetration Test (CPT) data for use in structural engineering design
  • California Plate Bearing Ratio testing
  • Geotechnical sampling with Shelby and Osterburgh sampler
  • Mexe-Cone Bearing Capacity testing
  • Mackintosh Probing
  • Hand held Shear Vane and Penetrometer tests

We run two dynamic probing rigs, set up for SPT/DPSH testing and sampling and carry calibrated trip hammers for use with our rotary rigs.

Geotechnical Testing

One of the most common misconceptions we encounter is that rotary drilling cannot produce undisturbed samples. This is not the case; in fact, the majority of rotary rigs are completely capable of running Eurocode compliant equivalents to U4/U 100 sampling, as well as providing continuous, representative samples in order to provide a full record for accurate logging, without the need for extrapolation or assumption that is often associated with more traditional methods of bulk sampling.

Our rotary and dynamic sampling rigs run a full complement of sampling systems, allowing us to retrieve everything from bulk to Class 1 undisturbed samples for laboratory analysis. Standard systems include:

  • Unlinered sonic sampling by aqualock (saturated and granular samples)
  • Class 1 & 2 thin wall samples (Shelby tubes)
  • Osterberg sampling (class 1 & 2)
  • Linered and Unlinered dynamic sampling
  • Bulk Sampling from split spoons
  • Bulk sampling from barrel samplers
  • Bulk sampling from extruded core

We enjoy a good relationship with a number of accredited geotechnical laboratories and are able to offer extremely competitive rates for scheduling and testing of geotechnical analysis.
