WestLand utilizes technologically current computer systems and experienced, well-trained operators to produce all our CAD products. This staff of 15 is utilized by the environmental, landscape architecture, archaeology and engineering groups as needed to meet production schedules. These individuals have been cross-trained in each discipline and bring a wide range of project experience to the projects on which they work. Additionally, the designers and project landscape architects are CAD proficient and perform many of the design tasks in CAD.

WestLand’s CAD production is based on current releases of AutoDesk’s version of AutoCAD Civil 3D and AutoCAD Map 3D, along with Microsoft Word. Our CAD production is organized around a team concept, where all team members have access to a common set of project data and software. In addition, we utilize many other specialized design and graphic programs for specific applications, including Microstation, ArcView, Adobe Photoshop, and CorelDraw.

The Geographic Information System (GIS) Department at WestLand has over 30 person-years experience in GIS, Geospatial Analysis, and Cartography. Our capabilities include digitizing graphic data, thematic mapping, vector and raster analysis, and surface modeling. Other capabilities include line-of-sight analysis, slope and aspect analysis, automated watershed delineation, prediction of flood extents, three-dimensional perspective visualization fly-through visualization, and design and implementation of a custom geospatial asset management system.

Software used for entering, analyzing, and displaying geospatial data includes ESRI ArcGIS Suite, MicroImages TNT Mips, and AutoCAD Map 3D 2009. WestLand is capable of importing and exporting all types of GIS files, including ArcInfo coverages, ArcInfo export (.e00), ArcInfo Generate, Shapefiles, DLG, KMZ and KML (Google) as well as flat and relational databases. Raster capabilities include TIFF, JPEG, IKONOS, SPOT, LANDSAT, and DEM.

WestLand has fifteen computer workstations running AutoCAD, five GIS workstations, one micro-station, one graphics workstation, and one digitizing workstation. For data input, WestLand has 10 GPS units, an E-size digitizing tablet, a 36-inch scanner, and three legal-size scanners. For graphics output, WestLand has three 36-inch plotters, a 36-inch scanner, two 11x17-inch color laser printers for presentation quality graphics, and several color and black/white printers.
