Global Positioning System or GPS enables the positioning of any point in a global framework through observations to a network of orbiting satellites. Originally designed for military use by the U.S., the information from these satellites was eventually made publicly available. At first the prime purpose was in navigation, but the surveying community soon realised that this technology could also be used for purposes of measurement.

Control surveys form a significant part of GPS work at Survey Systems, either for map revision or for large-scale topographic surveys.

We use Leica’s GPS systems, including the latest SKI-Pro software to post process GPS data. The kit offers the total solution that can be used for every possible type of GPS work. With position and heights continuously updated every 0.2 seconds (5Hz) in local coordinates, the SR530 complete with full stake out mode is ideal for location and positioning. Stake out graphics with zoom, polar and rectangular switch, real-time WGS84 or local coordinates are standard features. Standard programs include areas, lines and grids, subdivision coordinate geometry.
