Workers in Ontario are insured against work-related injuries and illnesses. The mandatory insurance is legislated by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and administered by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). To ensure employers are diligent in meeting their health and safety responsibilities, the WSIB conducts regular audits called “Workwell Audits” on firms with poor injury claim records. If you fail to achieve a passing score on the initial Workwell audit, you will have an opportunity to improve your score within six months. If you do not receive a passing score on the second audit, the WSIB may assess your firm for up to 75% of your initial premium.

The Ministry has established an intervention strategy that identifies high risk and priority firms for increased inspections.
