The institutional and healthcare industry comprises many subsectors including School Boards, Universities & Colleges, Ambulatory Healthcare, Hospitals and Nursing Care Facilities. Many of the activities in the institutional and healthcare industry can result in waste and pollution generation (solid, hazardous, air and water emissions). In order to understand which activities generate waste outputs, it is necessary to look at various functions and understand the products and supplies used and the resulting waste and pollutions. Pollution prevention is a way to reduce the impact that a facility makes on the environment. This includes reducing waste, emissions, accidental releases, depletion of raw materials and using renewable energy.
