Institutional and Healthcare
The institutional and healthcare industry comprises many subsectors including School Boards, Universities & Colleges, Ambulatory Healthcare, Hospitals and Nursing Care Facilities. Many of the activities in the institutional and healthcare industry can result in waste and pollution generation (solid, hazardous, air and water emissions). In order to understand which activities generate waste outputs, it is necessary to look at various functions and understand the products and supplies used and the resulting waste and pollutions. Pollution prevention is a way to reduce the impact that a facility makes on the environment. This includes reducing waste, emissions, accidental releases, depletion of raw materials and using renewable energy. By implementing well-planned environmental strategies, facilities can improve efficiencies, save money, minimize adverse environmental impacts and offer a healthier workplace.
Environmental due diligence and compliance programs can be extremely useful tools for identifying and reducing a number of long term environmental risks and liabilities at. In our experience, such programs are often most effective when a "team" approach is utilized and, when appropriate, an environmental consultant is retained to work closely with a knowledgeable in-house staff member.
