That depends on the soiling, the position of the system and your level of practice. By way of a guide you should need about one hour to clean 100 m2 or 10 kW. This is a rough estimate which may differ from the actual performance (e.g. if the soiling is particularly severe).

- Clean safely! Don’t place yourself at risk when cleaning. Familiarise yourself and observe the applicable laws and safety regulations for roof-related works. Protect your health and the health of your employees.
- Use desalinated (demineralised) water! By doing so you will avoid irreversible limescale staining and the unnecessary use of cleaning agents. The desalinated water is "empty" and so absorbs dirt very readily.
- Soften the dirt on your system. That will make your job much easier. Just as with washing dishes, you will need a lot less time and effort if you soften up the dirt prior to the actual cleaning process. To prevent the water from evaporating straight away, we recommend that you do not clean when the weather is very hot or under direct strong sunlight (midday).
- Work from top to bottom. This will prevent dirty water flowing over parts that have already been cleaned. And it also means that you will already be rinsing and cleaning the lower areas of your photovoltaic and solar power system.
- Use special soft brushes. Hard cleaning utensils can damage module surfaces. So only use soft brushes and cleaning utensils.
- Use a water-supplied telescopic rod with low conductivity. A telescopic rod has several advantages - it is not necessary to step on the modules, so avoiding a risk to yourself and to the system. Depending on the building and installation location, the system can be cleaned from ground-level or from a skylight/dormer window. Furthermore, the risk of an electric shock is minimised due to the reduced conductivity of the rod.
What other benefits does cleaning have?
Cleaning your photovoltaic or solar power system can contribute to
- the avoidance of significant loss of earnings,
- boosting the value retention of the system (it must be at least 20 years old),
- actively aiding climate protection, through the increased feed of green energy into the grid,
- maintaining your property,
- the system is kept in an optically good condition.
