Meteorological Observations and Forecasts for Air Navigation Services
Among the services offered in the field of Air Traffic Control, ENAV also provides the one relative to meteorological observations and forecasts for air navigation. ENAV produces and provides: Meteorological Services (weather forecasts and relative messages), both for airport and en route traffic, provided by the two forecast Units located at the Roma Fiumicino and Milano Linate airports. Observation, meteorological information and documentation services are carried out in the 39 Italian civil airports where ENAV offers air navigation services.
The weather services are carried out according to ICAO and EUROCONTROL norms; certification according to EU requisites and quality standards foreseen by UNI-ISO 9001 are currently underway. Meteorological observations take place 24 hours a day every day of the year to be distributed to airline companies and other airport handling agencies other than re-launched on international telecommunications networks. Furthermore, weather messages finalized at synoptic meteorology are emitted according to what is foreseen by the WMO (World Meteorological Organization). ENAV has signed cooperation agreements with the Department of Civil Protection and the Aeronautica Militare Italiana (Italian Air Force) finalized at sharing and integrating resources to optimize the meteorological systems present in Italy and to realize a systematic exchange of data.
