Montalbetti S.p.A. was the first Italian company to undertake the controlled demolition of hanging boilers. Back in the early 1970s we demolished a hanging boiler at the Vita Mayer paper mill in Cairate (Varese), as well as the first ENEL boiler at the Sulcis power station. We also successfully completed the demolition of plants belonging to the Montalto di Castro nuclear power station, just as we excelled in demolition work at CERN in Geneva, applying techniques which were avantgarde at the time.

Montalbetti S.p.A. was also the first company to offer added value in the demolition of fuel oil tanks, offering our many commissioning clients the chance to modernise their oil depot with the aim of ensuring ever quicker financial returns.

Nuclear power plant demolition
Using the most avantgarde technology, Montalbetti S.p.A. has perfected specialised techniques for particularly challenging demolition projects, such as demolitions in the regulated areas of ex-nuclear power plants, where the level of contamination of materials necessitates careful decontamination procedures, carried out in close cooperation with technicians from SOGIN (the nuclear plant management company). Thanks to cooperation between Montalbetti S.p.A. and national steel works, a procedure for diluting decontaminated materials has been perfected, a procedure that is now commonplace when decommissioning ex-nuclear power plants.

Industrial plant demolition
Montalbetti S.p.A. has worked in partnership with Italy’s main automotive group for many years, decommissioning systems where the demolition of parts of workshops is carried out ­– during the updating of manufacturing procedures – without having to stop work in adjacent departments. The techniques and equipment used to work inside manufacturing areas have now been guaranteed and tested by Montalbetti to the extent that a growing number of large workshops turn to Montalbetti S.p.A. for this kind of work.

Demolition of fuel oil tanks
The floating roofs of large crude oil or heavy fuel oil storage tanks often sink into the liquid below, due to incorrect or accidental manoeuvres. Montalbetti S.p.A. has perfected techniques, carried out by highly experienced technicians with the help of equipment specially designed for working safely in environments where there is a high risk of explosions. These techniques make it a leader in the field of special demolition projects, where Montalbetti operates both in Italy and abroad.

Boiler demolitions
When it comes to closures for maintenance and plant revamping, the main boiler manufacturers and operators increasingly turn to Montalbetti S.p.A. for the demolition of old boilers, as a guarantee that schedules will be honoured, since in such cases the financial returns are considerable. The enormous skill of Montalbetti S.p.A.’s teams of cutters, crane operators and slingers allows them to work on more than one boiler simultaneously, in shifts, to the extent that they are often rewarded for completing their work ahead of schedule.

Industrial site reclamation
The reclamation of disused industrial areas is usually the first operating phase necessary when undertaking decommissioning projects. Commissioning companies are increasingly paying more attention to, and are more aware of, this activity. Given the many kinds of operations involved, Montalbetti S.p.A. has chosen to train its own technicians and project managers to handle this type of activity. Thanks to a series of business deals with specialised companies, we are able to tackle any type of problem.
