Objective of the analysis : Determine whether a sealant contains PCB and at which concentration.
Results obtained : Total PCB concentration in the sealant.
Analysis deadline : Result within 5 days from the time we receive the sample at the laboratory (working days).
Method : PCB extraction followed by the quantification using gas chromatography coupled to an electron capture detector. Measurement of the 6 indicative congeners and calculation of the total concentration following the OFEFP recommendation (PCB dans les masses d'étanchéité des joints, VU-4013-F, 2003, Office fédéral de l'environnement OFEV).
Sampling : Put on some latex gloves, then cut a piece of the sealant (about 3 cm or 1.2 in). Place the sample in two successive sealed plastic bags.
Mailing : To mail samples to Switzerland is extremely easy because of the Swiss high quality postal services. For many countries around the world, the easiest and cheapest way is to use their national postal services, which will transport the packages or letters rapidly.
